<p>Here is an official definition:</p>
<p>Hypnosis is the induction of a state of consciousness in which a person loses the power of voluntary action and is highly conscious of suggestion or direction.</p>
<p>Going into a bit more detail though, you could say that hypnosis is often over complicated and even mysterious. We use the term “hypnosis” to describe a trance like state.</p>
<p>However, essentially we all go in and out of mild “trances” or hypnosis type states every day; such as in those moments when our minds wander and we daydream, even when we just shut the world out and deeply focus on a book we are reading.</p>
<p>These are all examples of trance like states, and they are all organic and natural. Hypnosis simply puts you into one of these mild “trance” states purposefully &#8211; with the aim of sending powerful hypnotic suggestions to help you change your life.</p>
<p>Although you might not remember everything which is said to you once you enter a trance you are not actually asleep, hypnosis is a wakeful state in which you are both deeply relaxed but you have a heightened sense of awareness and are open to suggestion.</p>

<p><a href="http://www.amazon.com/Learned-Optimism-Change-Your-Mind/dp/1400078393">Learned Optimism</a> is a well-researched book on the subject of optimism/pessimism by a well-known American psychologist, clinical researcher and author of self-help books, Martin Seligman.</p>
<p>In his book “Learned Optimism” he explains, in easy-to-understand and engaging language, what optimism and pessimism are, how they affect our happiness, our overall well-being and our success. If you are a pessimist and want to change your way of thinking, he gives a clear model for you to asses your own thinking style and how to change your way of thinking to become more optimistic. He also gives great advice on how to make sure our children will grow up being optimists and how to lead them away from having a pessimistic outlook on life by becoming successful optimists. Every theory he advocates is explained and based on rock-solid research to persuade even the biggest sceptics.</p>
<p>I like the fact that he includes worksheets in his book to help you in your quest to be happy and optimistic about your life and future.</p>
<p>Overall, if you could do with a life-changing mood book, Martin Seligman has written a valuable self-help book for you and your family.</p>

<p><strong>What Is Positive Psychology?</strong></p>
<p>Imagine that you are looking at a butterfly trying to bust out of its cocoon. Using it as a metaphor for life, someone might say that life is hard and we struggle against forces that we aren’t sure of. This is often how psychology works. It asks us what the problem is and tries to come up with solutions and answers from that standpoint.</p>
<p>Let’s look at that butterfly again. What if, instead of looking at the negative aspect, we concentrated on the positive? It takes some time since we aren’t wired to think that way, but it can be done. The butterfly is using its strength to push open to a new world one day at a time. As he pushes out, his wings get stronger. Once he is out, he can soar to the heavens happily.</p>
<p>What about that inner strength? It has a valid place in our lives and our society. That is one of the beliefs of positive psychology.</p>
<p><strong>Positive psychology is the scientific study of the attributes and virtues that cause a person, a community or a family unit to survive and do it well.</strong> According to those who practice positive psychology, the human condition is not to rail against adversity but to find ways to thrive in life independent of circumstance.</p>
<p>Everyone wants to make a life for themselves that is fantastic. No one starts out striving to be mediocre or live a so-so life. For those who are living exceptional lives, their traits are studied to help others to do exactly the same thing. The tables are turned from using the negative to explain feelings and purpose to viewing the positive and how to find that in each person.</p>
<p>The theory is that when people learn to identify the positives in themselves, they can continue to replicate more positives in their lives and the lives of those around them. This is the basis of research being done in this field.<br />

<p>It is believed that positive psychology will build better individuals. These people will have more tolerance of differences, even embracing them for the common good.</p>

<p><strong>#1 Create a pattern of success</strong></p>
<p>One of the best ways to think like a winner is to create a pattern of success. This is accomplished by setting goals and consistently achieving them.</p>
<p>There are many ways to set goals. To achieve them and create a pattern of success, there is a proven method:</p>
<p>Create a realistic but motivating goal. Create a series of smaller goals to help you achieve your big goal. Plan how you’re going to achieve each smaller goal.</p>
<p>For example, if your larger goal is to have $100,000 in sales this year, then one of your smaller goals may be to launch a product each quarter. Plan how you’re going to launch your product successfully. Create measurements to determine your success. As you achieve each smaller goal, you’re creating a pattern of success. As you become accustomed to succeeding you’ll naturally begin to feel, act and think like a winner – because you are one.<br />
<strong><br />
#2 Positive affirmations</strong></p>
<p>We all struggle with limiting beliefs and doubts. However, to think like a winner you need to think positively. Turn your fears, limiting beliefs and doubts into positive affirmations. For example, “I am no good with money” can become “I am in control of my financial future. I am capable of success.” Repeat the affirmation each time doubt creeps into your thoughts. Make a habit of repeating the positive affirmation regularly. Make it part of your inner dialogue. Soon you’ll begin to believe and act like it’s true.</p>
<p><strong>#3 Surround yourself with supporters</strong></p>
<p>Make sure your friends, family and associates are of like minds. It’s wholly unhelpful to give your attention to naysayers. Believe you can accomplish anything and surround yourself with people who feel the same. Positive and enthusiastic people are powerful. Their passion is contagious. When you surround yourself with these people you really can accomplish anything.</p>
<p>Finally, accept that some days are going to be more difficult than others. Instead of fighting these days or time periods, experience them with an open mind. Embrace them as learning moments and persevere. Winners aren’t people who never fail or struggle. Winners are people who persevere.</p>
<p>Set goals, maintain a positive mindset and create a strong support network. You are a winner. Always remember that.</p>
